What Rucci calls “worms” you will find in most sewing books as a bullion stitch. This stitch can be easily mastered with a little practice.
1. Thread your needle with embroidery thread, fold the single thread in two and knot both ends together. Insert the needle from the wrong side where the stitch starts. Pull the thread through and reinsert the needle into the fabric where you want the bullion stitch to end but don’t pull the thread through.
2. Wrap the thread around the tip of your needle as many times as it takes to fill the space you want to span. Hold the wraps with one hand while you pull the needle through with the other hand. Insert the needle in the ending position and pull to the wrong side. Move to the next stitch by tunneling between layers and repeat.
From issue one on, I do believe this is one of the best articles on couture techniques ever presented in Threads.
Thank you.
