Ultimate Sewing Challenge

Last day to enter the Threads Ultimate Sewing Challenge

Don’t miss your chance to enter the Threads Ultimate Sewing Challenge, brought to you by BERNINA! Simply create and enter a fun party ensemble with an accessory for your chance to win a BERNINA 330 sewing machine and tote. Your party ensemble should include three or more pieces, including your accessory. Your garments can include everything from jackets and dresses, to pants and blouses, and everything in between. Don’t forget to accessorize your outfit with handmade shawls, hats, gloves, or anything else that strikes your fancy.
Enter photos of your handmade garments and accessories to our contest gallery before November 4, 2011, 11:59 pm, and you could win over $1,000 in prizes. Entries must be handmade by you for this contest, or prior to this contest. There is no limit to the number of ensembles you can enter.
The editors of Threads will choose 10 finalists, and a grand prize winner will be picked by YOU in a Threads member voting sweepstakes. Check back here on November 14th to vote for your favorite finalist and be entered to win prizes of your own.

Looks like a fun contest! By "party ensemble" I'm assuming you mean an evening wear outfit?

    This should be fun.

    Happy sewing,

    Attention Ms. Victoria North and or Web Administrator;

Are the contestant garments require to be sewing patterns or can they be creative designs of the individual?

    Please advise - Thank you.

    Best Regards,

    Ms. Madisson

You may use a sewing pattern or something of your own design. Please note which pattern you use in your entry. The more information we have about your ensemble, the better the judging will be in the end.

How do you define "previously unpublished"? If I post the outfit on my blog, or parts of the outfit, am I disqualified?

Good Luck to all of you entering. Since I hardly make anything strictly from commercial patterns, I'm back in school, and I have 3 teens (who need Halloween costumes), I just don't have time to make a good ensemble in a month.

  13. kaysoyka | | #13

Can you enter more than one ensemble?

  14. User avater
    VictoriaNorth | | #14

There is no limit to how many ensembles you can enter. Also, check back on October 19th for our annual Halloween Costume Contest, if you are making one this year.

By published we mean that you have been paid for the work, and it has been featured in a media publication of some kind (i.e. magazine article). Your personal Facebook account would not be considered publication. Good luck!

  16. pozestbydesign | | #16

Sounds like fun! What kind of party is this to be? Or could the ensemble be any Special Occasion (like a wedding)?

  17. RADHA | | #17

I WANT TO ASK ABOUT HANDMADE DRESS. IT MEANS NO SEWING MACHINE? CAN IT BE AN INDIAN DRESS???

Your entry can be any special occasion garment. Just be sure to read the official rules to make sure your ensemble is eligible. There should be three or more pieces including an accessory. "Handmade" refers to a garment you have made yourself and is not purchased ready-made. Sewing machine and other tool use is definitely allowed in creating your entry.

Would love to enter the competitions here at threads.......I have a special ensemble all designed, pattern drafted and made by me.........but I live in the U.K. so I am not eligible to enter..........and prior to returning home, I lived in Turkey.

Good luck to all the participants and to the lucky winner - have fun.

Vicky, the computer system refuses to save any text I've entered in the "Full Text" box or in the "Photo Caption" box -- I have, however saved photos and other sections as a draft. Whenever I hit the "Publish and Preview" key, I get two error messages: "Please enter Summary information." and "Please enter a Short Description."

I haven't used the Threads Magazine part of the website before, but last night I successfully posted a quick entry to the gallery of Taunton's Craft Stylish website, which is set up in a similar way.

I don't know whether there's a glitch on the Threads Magazine website or whether I'm doing something wrong, but I wouldappreciate any help you or anyone else can provide. Thanks.

@tzipi It could be that your images are now too small to be uploaded. All images should be between 400px-1,200px wide/high. You can contact customer service at 800-477-8727 between 9-5 EST if you continue to have technical problems.

  25. User avater
    VictoriaNorth | | #25

Yes, you should be able to edit your entry after it is has been published. You should see an edit link in the box at the upper right of your text.

    VictoriaNorth | | #26

@nancynancy: I've been trying to replicate your problem, but everything seems to be working for me. You can try creating a new entry and making sure all of the fields on the page have something in them. It could be an issue with how the text was copied into the form. Feel free to call customer service if you continue to have technical issues, and they may be able to answer your specific questions. You can contact customer service at 800-477-8727 between 9-5 EST.

  27. sophronia | | #27

Hi Vicky I'm having the same problem that nancynancy is having! Not only for this challenge but for attempts at previous postings too. Thanks for the customer service contact!

    VictoriaNorth | | #28

We are trying to figure out the technical issue, but please try using the Firefox Internet Browser, if you continue to have trouble using Internet Explorer to upload your entry. You can download it for free at mozilla.com/firefox.

  29. pariah | | #29

I can't upload my photos either, always too big no matter how much I crop. I wonder if the other participants having trouble are using a Mac computer.
