How to Sew a Sleeve

Follow one method of setting a sleeve by ease stitching and pinning

Learn to sew a sleeve with this follow-up episode to “Introduction to Sleeves.” After discussing the anatomy of a sleeve, garment sewing expert Judith Neukam offers different ways you can attach the sleeves.

She demonstrates her preferred method of setting a sleeve with the help of ease stitching and pinning. She starts with measuring between markings on the pattern. Then she add a double row of ease stitches, sews the garment’s side and shoulder seams, pins the sleeve to the garment armhole, and sews it in the round.

During this demonstration, Judith offers many important tips for successful sleeve installation. She also shares other ways to install a sleeve.

This detailed tutorial on how to sew a sleeve is one video in the comprehensive Teach Yourself to Sew series.
