Sewing Tip: Seam allowances vary between 1⁄4 inch and 3⁄8 inch. Our tester recommends increasing the center-back seam allowance to 5⁄8 inch to accommodate the zipper and buffer the buttons.

Column sheath meets mermaid in this elegant, form-fitting lined dress. It has a stunning bias-cut draped cowl flowing over the fitted underbodice, cap sleeves with shoulder pads, and a sweep train. A raised waist seam defines the center front, curves toward the side seams, and dips to a point at center back. This meticulously hand-drafted pattern comes on heavy paper. Our tester found the dart legs missing on the left underbodice. But, since the registration marks are there, you can simply trace the dart legs from the right side. The straightforward pattern instructions are minimal, with the construction steps all in text. Drapey fabrics, such as four-ply silk are ideal, and those with a little stretch are beneficial as the hip area is slim. The dress shown at left is stretch silk charmeuse with narrow lace trim.
(Sized 6-20 for busts 32.3-46.5 in. and hips 34.6-48.8 in.)
