Vogue 1310

This bias-cut outfit drapes gently over the body. The basic top is semifitted, has a scoop neckline, and slightly rounded shoulder seams that extend to form small cap sleeves. The loose-fitting, floor-length skirt has a shaped hemline, is made from just one pattern piece, and has a continuous seam that spirals around the body. Self-fabric ties at the waist are formed when the center-front extension is slashed between two stitching lines. Our tester recommends using ample space to lay out the very large skirt piece. She found all the match points aligned perfectly at the seamlines. The fabric weight and hand are important for these pieces since both are made with double layers. For formal garments, select silk charmeuse or silk jersey. For casual wear, use a printed rayon. The sample top is made in silk charmeuse from EmmaOneSock.com, and the skirt is made in printed silk from Mood Designer Fabrics.

Style tip: Use an ombré or border-print fabric to take advantage of the skirt’s spiraling seam.
