I plan on starting some quilt tops and stockings. I have enjoyed this magazine before and would like to receive it again.

  2. Melwyk | | #2

I'm going to start sewing some more autumnally suited dresses -- using some of my sweater knits. Threads would be lovely to have a print subscription to because it's the best way I've found to improve my skills and be inspired to continually improve.

I plan to sew a color-blocked dress for my daughter's wedding shower using a princess-seamed sheath dress pattern. I'd love a subscription to Threads to utilize the option of reading it on my tablet.

  4. cherielou | | #4

I sew every day. This month begins the peak of the fall wedding season for me. I use the Threads website quite often for reference but I would live to have a subscription to the magazine.

I'm going to work on a draped dress for myself and also my dog's Halloween costume (he will be the cutest security guard). I would LOVE to win a year subscription to Threads, because you guys are great teachers and you offer modern clothing projects and sewing tips!

  7. kathrynpless | | #7

I plan to start back sewing and make a dress to wear to my son's wedding in December. I think Threads would be a wonderful resource to keep current on the trends and new skills in sewing.

  8. Karey | | #8

I'm planning on sewing a curtain to hide my cat's litter box. Odd, I know, but I want to hide it out of plain view. I might also sew a few bags because I really love sewing those! I would love to win a subscription because I love reading Threads! It gives me so many inspirational ideas!

  9. vwren99 | | #9

I'm working on all the components of an 1840's women's everyday costume for re-enacting. (using, I think, every sewing technique there is before I'm done!)

The month of September 2014, I plan to set a fit and flare dress using Ponte Knit fabric with matching lace incorporated on the side front and neckline/sleeve hem binding.

I want this Threads subscription because I have been purchasing Threads magazine every month since the June/July 1990, issue number 29 ($4.50). I purchased a subscription for one year and was disappointed because every time I received my magazine, it has a tear on it, or got wet in my mailbox when it rained. My hope is that I will be able to test out the subscription service by winning a year subscription and determine if I will maintain my subscription or return to purchasing my issue every month.

Threads magazine is one of the best sewing inspiration and teaching magazines on the planet and I want to win a year subscription.

I plan to sew some dresses. Threads is a very informative piece of sewing history :)

I plan to do some re-fashioning of some clothes from a local thrift shop, I just finished a pair of palazzo pants-perfect for patio parties in the fall and hope to make a couple of tops with some fun prints in my stash. I would LOVE to receive this subscription because I have delved headfirst into fashion sewing and would love to learn more techniques, have advice at my fingertips and gain inspiration from the magazines projects.

  13. vancouverlori | | #13

I plan to sew a couple more pair of jeans as well as a couple tee shirts and possibly a jacket. I have the Threads Archive on CD (1985-2013), but really prefer to thumb through a paper copy of the magazine.

My husband always give me a subscription to Threads for Christmas and last year he forgot. I've been in withdrawal all this time. During National Sewing month I try to sew something everyday. Today I made a small envelope purse to hold a gift I'm giving at a wedding next week. It is made from an antique guest towel. Very sweet.

I will be sewing A LOT this month! Working on Christmas gifts (don't want to give it away so I'll just say these gifts will enhance someone's kitchen!) as well as some "winter" clothes for Florida (maybe we'll have a whole 3 or 4 days of winter this year -- ha ha!). I HAVE to have a subscription to Threads - - it's my sewing bible!

  20. avasgrndma | | #20

I am just learning to sew and trying to absorb all the information I can, I really enjoy threads magazine and would love to win a subscription. It is full of information for a new sewist. I am currently making Christmas runners, a reversible duvet with curtains, 2 tablecloths one with curtains and 2 mens toiletry bags. I am also just learning to quilt the runners so I guess I am involved in many new aspects of sewing!

My grandson is already talking Halloween. He will be a cheetah this year. Must start soon!

  26. sc79 | | #26

This September I plan on sewing my Halloween costume (leaning towards a Princess or Jane Austin Character). I also have a few household odds and ends that need taking care of. I would like a subscription to threads so I may learn new techniques, I have only been sewing with a machine for a little over a year and have a lot to learn.

  27. TerrySailingKnitter | | #27

Totes, Totes, and more tote bags will be flying off of the machine in September. Now that I shop at the farmers markets twice a week I really need some nice bags. I NEED a subscription to Threads to inspire me to sew more items more often and to learn how to use the new interfacings and other fiberly tools available.

  28. Threadysetgo | | #28

I'm making myself a new, brightly-colored fall jacket from a Vogue pattern and a little black dress. I'd love a subscription to Threads, as I'm always looking for new projects and to improve my skills.

  29. lilyharkom | | #29

I'm currently sewing my wedding dress, as well as a vest suit for my 2 year old son and a vest and tie for my fiancé. Both outfits are black cotton with red accents, and red and black brocade vests with black satin lining. It's my most ambitious project to date (including the 25 rompers I am sewing for my son and my 4 month old nephew).

Why would I like to win? This year has been incredibly hard on us financially, I have been a threads subscriber for two years now and I relish checking my mailbox around "Threads" time and reading each issue from cover to cover. However due to our financial issues, it's looking extremely unlikely that I will be able to pay the renewal when it comes, which is devastating because I look forward to it so much. Things are improving but it will take some time and having that subscription would really help.

  30. stillSTH | | #30

I've got several fall projects planned, including a couple of pairs of pants, some flannel pajamas, a fleece cycling jersey for my partner, and restyling a failed dress project of my sister's.

Would love to win a subscription so that I can expand my skills and get inspiration for some new creative projects.

  31. lynktr | | #31

Thanks for the chance to win one!

I am making a new coat following Kenneth King's tutorial for the fly front coat. I just started and I had better hurry. It is really cold in Ohio today. Threads magazine is my right hand. I refer to it constantly and always have an issue with me. I rotate them out and reread the oldy but goody back issues. I just can't get enough of them.

  44. Trippinbugs | | #44

For the month of September, I will be sewing dresses with donated fabrics and notions for a non-profit organization called "Dress A Girl Around The World." The idea is that every little girl should have a dress, whether it's the only dress they will ever own, or a new dress to grow into. Girls in third world countries are targeted daily by sex trafficing, and our goal is to help deter their risk by dressing them in a way that the predators stay away from. Unfortunately, girls are judged by the way they look, and a new dress shows confidence and pride, which is not what these groups want. Also, I think everyone can agree that these children deserve it more than anyone.....boys included, and some people make shorts for the boys to send overseas as well.
I love Threads magazine, but I find myself not always in a place to afford a copy myself. I rely on the local bookstores and library to read it when it's available.....but it would be amazing to have copies of my own!

I have already transitioned from sewing summer wear, i.e., lightweight cotton/linen tops and dresses, to knits and heavier fabrics for fall sewing. For fall 2014, I'm planning two projects using Colette patterns, the Anise jacket which I plan to sew up in a light to mid-weight wool fabric, and the Moneta dress (with 3/4 sleeves), using a lovely driftwood-color (tan) cotton/lycra knit from my fabric stash. I am already a subscriber to Threads, but I'd be happy if I received Threads forever. Lots of information and inspiration, that's what I love about Threads!

With Halloween fast approaching, it's time to make one of my favorite things to create.......costumes!!!! Each year, my daughter, now 13, requests a more elaborate costume than the year before. Last year, we did Elizabeth from Bioshock. This year, it will be The Undertaker from an anime called "Black Butler." It allows us to spend time together and I use the tips and tricks I pick up in my Threads magazines to make beautiful garments, and pass them on to her. That's why winning a subscription would be wonderful to me.

  64. strandjss | | #64

  70. user-3364945 | | #70

I plan to create a complete fall wardrobe in celebration of my upcoming wedding. I will be moving from the deep south to a more northern state soon. The wedding is taking most of my expenses therefore a new wardrobe for the harsh winter ahead is necessary. It will be an enjoyable transition therefore I need new ideas for creating more of a winter wardrobe than my usual southern style wardrobe.

I intend to make some comfortable lounge wear using vintage linens as my materials. I collect vintage tablecloths and pillowcases and have plenty to use. I would like to receive Threads magazine for the couture sewing tips that I want to incorporate into my design work.

  78. grammiepam | | #78

I need a new subscription to Threads. I simply CANNOT do without it.
It looks like I will be making or rather modifying a few tops. I will be having surgery on my shoulder because of a Rotator Cuff tear. That means a tight sling for at least three weeks and a looser one for three more weeks. I am buying some extra large men's undershirts to rip out one seam so I can put it on on the good arm and throw it over the other shoulder. Still puzzling on what to make for a replacement bra.
I understand that I will be needing loose fitting tops for months. I'm already studying my patterns and fabrics. Wish me luck.
Also, as soon as the pain pills can be stopped, I should have lots of time in the easy chair to catch up on my backlog of Threads Magazine. :)

  79. avasgrndma | | #79

I am just learning to sew and I have waited my whole life to learn so my interest is very high and I am never far from my machine, seam ripper or scraps of material. I plan on starting with Christmas which includes newbie stuff like table clothes and then guy stuff like toiletry bags and then kid stuff like i-pod covers. At last I see a princess seam with a zipper in a dress for me! I so need my favourite sewing mag --Threads -- to keep me fashion aware (I so am not!) and sewing aware ( again, I so am not...yet!).

  80. ariadnejones | | #80

I will be quilting a seascape, I've got the material, all I need now is the mojo as I've lost it somewhere! We don't get such wonderful mags in the UK so I'd love to get the subscription.

  81. RushW | | #81

I have a long list of things I am planning on making. Currently I am working on new cushion covers for all of the outdoor furniture; this turned out to be a much bigger project than I thought. After that I will be making myself a new pair of blue jeans that will actually fit.

I've been working on some charity pillowcases and now I'm on to Christmas sewing, which I can't say because of the secrecy issue. I am trying to get as much done as possible before hip surgery sometime in October. My right hip is probably not going to allow me to use the machine for awhile, so I'll be doing only hand sewing till I'm better. I would love to win a subs. to Threads because it is the best for the kind of quality sewing I like to do. Threads will show you the correct way, the best way, not necessarily the fastest way. There are enough places out there to get fast and easy, and while there is a time and place for that, garment sewing for yourself or a loved one is not that place, IMO.

I'll be visiting Singapore soon and am preparing for the heat and humidity which seems to be there all the year round.
So I'm adding dark side panels to my dresses: this is not only current fashion but means the dresses will be looser and therefore cooler.

This month I am making 4 costumes for grandchildren --- Seahawk color dinosaur for the 1 year old, squirrel for the 3 year old, Elsa for the 5 year old, and hopefully a very tiny Anna costume for the other teeny tiny 3 year old. Threads is the most exciting piece of mail I receive and the first resource I turn to for how to tackle a new technique. I have all the issues published except a few of the earliest issues for which I now have the DVD version.

Now that Halloween is upon us and as a good grandma I am making an Elsa costume for my 5yo grand-daughter and an Anna costume for her 3 yo sister. I will also be finishing a knit jacket and beginning a chanel type jacket for me.

This month I am learning to sew with knits. I have a pair of shorts cut out and ready to sew. I am also working on Halloween costumes : )

There is always something new to learn in every issue of Threads magazine, even for someone who's been sewing as long as I have. Would love to have a subscription!

Our church's prayer quilt ministry members are working feverishly to complete our lap quilts for Christmas giveaways to the elderly and those in dire need because of health or other issues. The free quilts are cotton tops, cotton batting and cotton batting. The ministry founder and I sew the tops and other members hand tie each quilt. We fill any position of completion wherever and whenever needed.

I recently had the honor of representing the ministry and bringing a quilt to a man who was terminally ill at home. The visit with him and his wife was so touching and uplifting. He died a week later and was buried from our church. This is a cherished memory of the importance of this ministry.

I think a subscription to Threads magazine will inspire us to expand our expertise and project offerings. It will of course be shared among our members at each meeting.

I sew all of the time, so I haven't planned anything special. I've always got a backload of sewing to do. My grandchildren always keep me busy. I have two granddaughters and one grandson and the grandson is the one that ask for me to make something.

Before the digital age, I had every hard copy of your magazine. Now I have all of them as digital. If I win the subscription, I would hope it comes as digital, if not I'll read it and pass it on to someone that would like it.

I'm also working on several pieces that I ice dyed...these are to be different art quilt projects...1 using embroidery, lace and rickrack for trims....1 using pleats that are then sewn different directions...1 will be a fabric box. Currently, I am sewing baby doll accessories for my granddaughter's fourth birthday. I just finished a wrap with a cowl neck from a wonderful raspberry sweater knit. Next on my list of sewing is a blouse back t-shirt and a couple skirts and pants. I have a stash of some wonderful Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren fabrics I will be using for the skirts and pants.

A Threads subscription would just make my me plain happy. I love the magazine and so does my mom, who pours over my old copies whenever she comes over. Maybe she needs a subscription for Christmas!

I have had a lot of repair work lately. People need their clothing fixed and I have the skills to do the repair work. I enjoy sewing and embroidering items to give as gifts. I turn fingertip towels into baby bibs for gifts. I cut out the neck hole and then sew in rib knit for a collar. I then embroider cute designs or sayings on the homemade bibs. I have been reading Threads from my local library and would love to win a subscription.

September is my month to get inspired. Our state fair runs for 17 days during September. I compete in the Open Class Sewing and usually do quite well. I get so inspired by seeing the other exhibitors' entries. I also run the 4-H Fashion Revue competition held at the State Fair. Seeing what these kids can sew always amazes and inspires me. I use Threads in my 4-H club's sewing studio.

Next month I'm going to buy an overlocker so that I can sew more easily with knit fabrics. Once it arrives, I'll be playing with it and making t-shirts. So, for the rest of this month, I plan to make a few things from non-knit fabrics - at least one shirt, two camisole-type tops, a pair of denim jeans and two Xmas stockings. (the stockings might have to wait until November :) )
I'd love a subscription to Threads, as it's not easy to get hold of in the shops here.

Hi Seamsters! I am remaking a sweatshirt/sweatpant set for my mother; cutting down middle, removing the ribbing bottom and cuffs. Then I use an interfaced cotton knit for placket down front and continue design change by adding 3 inch to length around bottom with same fabric (folded with interfacing), plus finish sleeve and pant with knit cuffs. May use buttons on front closure or leave open. The same cotton knit fabric will make a great T-shirt then to add a coordinated top.

As a former home ec teacher from the 70s, I have a passion for sewing and Threads magazine gives inspiration that keeps the fire burning. I Love Threads from front cover to back!

I have committed to sewing every day during Nat'l Sewing Month. So far I've tried 2 new tank tops, having to add darts to the patterns to accommodate my size. I offered to make something for a friend for a gallery opening, and just delivered an adorable jacket to her yesterday. I took the time to make a muslin and fit the pattern to her petite proportions. The rest of the month will be spent FINALLY fitting a new pair of shorts, and getting through that mystery pile on my sewing table. Then, I will start my first Quilt of Valor.

I have enjoyed my Threads magazine subscription for years. Taking the time to sew every day this month has been such a pleasure, and sparked my creativity in so many ways. I think my next sewing challenge will be trying something new from every issue in my stash, and future publications. My continued subscription will keep inspired and stitching away, for myself and others.

Thank you Threads for a great publication and online tools.

  151. wondafleemade | | #151

So happy that there is month dedicated to sewing. I have been sewing for years and I sew on a regular basis.
This month, I will be sewing a trench jacket with Ankara print fabric using Simplicity 2508. I am interested in this jacket because of the many details and sewing techniques that I will be having the chance to put into it. I will be sewing the long jacket with sleeve ruffle, welt, yoke pocket details. This would be be very for the fall. I also plan to sew color blocked cloche hat to go along with this coat. Although I have sewn many other clothing items (skirts, pants, dresses, jackets and hats, I have not sewn a coat. I know I will have fun making this jacket as I love the material that I selected.
I would love to be considered for the gift of one year subscription to Threads magazine because I love different topics that it covers and the featured experts. It is refreshing when a technique is presented either in a easier or more professional style such that the energy that one puts into sewing an item is not wasted because the sewn item looks homemade or just darn right terrible. I love the various companies that advertise and that can be used a resource when a notion, fabric or other item is needed. I buy my copies of Threads at the present time. I would love to begin with subscriptions for I feel it is one of those for which money would be well spent. Thank you for your consideration.
    Sincerely, Wondafleemade

My sewing plan for the next thirty days is continue with a challenge I started twelve days ago. I complete one project a day. If it's not completed it is abandon. I did this onece before because I was creatively "stuck" and it got me back on track. Some projects, like hemming a pair of pants, will be fast and easy others, like making three Halloween capes, will take several hours to finish. I look forward to the challenge.
I would love to win a subscription to Threads. I belong to a group of creative women, that meet at least once a month, and we share our magazines. I borrow the Threads magazine from one women who is not in the group, but she always wants it back so I do not loan it. Im perfecting my cigarette pant pattern so i can make several pairs for work. I am using Cynthia Rowleys 1371 pattern but making several adjustments like shortening the leg and shortening the crotchlength to make it less "high-waisted" so far ive finished my first muslin in a straight size 4 and the fit is pretty good! After all the pants i will make a couple blouses for work as well.

With the few remaining days, I plan to finish sewing a pair of blue jeans for my husband based on Kenneth King's Craftsy class, Jeanius.

I am busy making kilts for a hashing club's Red Dress Run that will take place in February. I know the minimum will be 50 but it might increase to 100 or 150 by the time registration is completed.
This is a challenging, yet fun project. I have a few club members who are volunteering to help in the construction so the first day of working with volunteers is today and it should prove interesting to say the least. Last month I was asked to make a club member's 'Happi Coat' and things just progressed from there.
Sewing opens the door to 'sew' many opportunities. Meeting people that I would never be in contact with otherwise. I have never read or opened a copy of Threads magazine prior to searching the web this morning for sewing magazines. I was curious about what is available to those of us who sew. I am always so busy that I never take timeout and thought that it might be time to 'charge' my battery by reading and sharing with other like minds.

I have tons of different fabric that I've been collecting over the years in hopes to make lots of children outfits and outfits for myself. The children are going so fast, it's already fall and didn't get a chance to make a cute cherry pattern sundress for my two year old. The eight year old is too old for all the cute patterns I picked up, but I did make her a pair of turquoise shorts with purple and turquoise butterfly pattern accents. I have for myself, 3 yards of purple with black lace fabric which I plan to turn into, for those rare occasions, a Mommy's night out dress.

There are not many days left, but I'd love to finish a quilt I'm working on and get started on making some sweaters for my kids.

I'm sewing uniforms for a local high school's Honor Guard this month for a parade next month. I'm also making a Halloween costume for a friend's daughter (similar to Anna from Frozen). I love reading the magazine cover to cover and learn so much from it. It's put together very well and always has interesting topics. I really like that you don't have to page to the back of the book to finish an article! I would love to win so I can keep my subscription going during my difficult financial times (we just had to close my husband's store and owe lots of money from that!)

In September, I've made some suit covers for a birthday gift,2 parrot purses from a modified owl purse pattern, and a nearly-done corset (had to modify the pattern first, of course, to fit), and I've really been striving to only use fabric from my stash for all of it! Dang, I'm proud of myself.
Winning a year of Threads would be wonderful because A) I never win anything; and B) It is the one not necessary expense I allow myself. I just can't give I up. The information is timely, interesting, valuable, helpful and always well written. Every issue has at least one thing I just have to try (someday, anyway), so they are always readily available in my sewing room and I even invested in the digital archive.
Thank You Threads... you make my day.

I need to sew up some drapes for our closet as we have removed the (ugly) closet doors. I also need some pj pants for lounging this fall and I'd like to sew up a messenger bag for my daughter. I'd love to win a subscription as it has a very good reputation and I've never seen it in person!

I am planning to sew this month- hopefully- a free fly coat as taught by the class of Kenneth D King. Its such an excellent course and I just went a bought a gorgeous wool fabric which is a double wool- one side is solid pink and the other side is a pink plaid. Im very excited about it.

At the same time I am finishing up a boucle skirt and knit top. The top I copied from a sweater in my closet and the skirt is according to Pamela Leggets Magic Pencil Skirt pattern. Its a purple and black boucle whcih I bought on fabric row- 4th Street in Philadelphia at jack B Fabrics. In order to make it more interesting I bought a trim of pearls at Fleishmans Fabrics also on South 4 the Street in Philadelphia.

I love Threads magazine and get so inspired by the articles there.I learn new techniques and get new ideas for new projects.

I am working on a dress & jacket for a friend to wear to her son's wedding. Also a Day of the Dead small art quilt, a larger quilt using fabric I dyed, and a fiber art piece for a group show in January. I never have time to get bored! I am a long-time subscriber. I picked up issue #1 in a bookstore & immediately subscribed, so I have read them *all*. A free year would be awesome!

I plan to sew a small "man Bag" for my husband, so that he will stop leaving his glasses behind, or wanting to put everything in my bag! I'm so impressed by the tutorials you publish that I'd love to get the magazine.

I had planned to make a dress for myself to wear to my granddaughter's wedding in October. Unfortunately I didn't get around to sew it this month. A fellow my husband works with wanted a pair of flannel lined camo pants to wear to deer hunt, so I set mine aside to get these made. I still have a week and a half to get my outfit made and I won't have to feel guilty that someone asked me to sew something and I refused. I really want a Threads subscription simply because I miss getting my favorite sewing magazine. Living on a fixed income, aka retirement, doesn't allow for very many extras. I feel the need to justify any purchases that are for my pleasure alone. I don't have too, I just feel the need too

I am headed to Italy next month and I realized I didn't have enough travel clothes. So, I made two pair of jersey, yoga style pants; two tanks tops; a cowel neck sweater; a sheath dress and a swing skirt (both jersey). Phew! now I can travel with clothes that will not wrinkle, look up-to-date and be very comfortable. I Need a vacation after all that sewing!! Where is the best place to shop for fabric in Rome??
