I, like all sewers have a love hate relationship with my Sergers. Yes I have 2. One threaded with dark thread and one with light. One Serger is sitting right now with a straight line of thread coming out of the needle. Not the beautiful chain that we all love. So of course I have to re thread. Ug !! Find the book....or DVD....rethread. Why is it a big deal.? Because I could be sewing !!!! I would love to learn anything about a serger and would love to win the DVD'sD!!

  8. hba | | #8

I walk by my serger every day, her name is Betty, she beckons me, use me she says, make something she says, just try she says. Betty, Betty, if only I knew how, knew the correct way. If only I could just run those threads, run that material right through. Yes, I need to win these Dvd's to learn to run Betty Serger. Thank you.

I'm a stay at home mom, and my partner just purchased us a serger. This is the perfect opportunity for us to build our custom clothing line. Having the Thread experts as guides couldn't be better. Thanks for making sewing a priority! Blessings

Actually, to win this premium, would give my son (age 34) and I an opportunity to learn together, the use of a serger.
Since last summer, we have shared quality time, as I have passed on the basics toward sewing his own apparel. I helped him make several test pairs of knickers, until we reached final pairs, which he proudly wore on the golf course. Attempting another pair to wear this June 1lth, for National Knickers Day; AND now constructing a seersucker suit for him to wear to a summer wedding. His goal is to learn the process, and operation of using a serger. Finding information regarding sewing projects for men has been a challenge, and we have resorted to the internet, tutorial videos for our lessons. Thank you for the opportunity!

I would love to win so I could do more with knits. I love wearing knit materials but I'm not confident in sewing them. I have a nice machine and I'd like to use it more.

  16. mjmadeit | | #16

The serger has so many possibilities that I could learn to use better. The DVD series would be a great way to learn these new things!

I recently acquired at our guild's auction two big containers of quality serging thread. I have a terrific serger, and time at home caring for my dh with a hip replacement. The DVD would be the teacher in the room. Thx for the giveaway.

After taking classes from Pam Leggett at ASE, I realized I was barely scrstching the surface on using my sergers! I would love to win one of these DVDs to have this one-on-one classroom at my fingertips 24/7! Pick me! Pick me! And THANK YOU for all of the other infinite information you make so available. Love my Insider access!

There's never a limit of creativity with a serger. The more I read modern books, the more people come up with great ideas just with playing with fabric, tensions and thread. Simply amazing! I enjoy my basic serger (and I mean basic) but I know that there is a lot more I can do with it.

  22. mile57acr | | #22

I feel like there is so much more I could use my serger for - I would love to learn a few new techniques!Right now I use it mainly to finish seam allowances, so I use my serger on almost every project I make!

  23. scottie335 | | #23

I am serger challenged, and these DVDs would help me learn the ins and outs of the serger, as well as some awesome techniques. I help the ladies in our sewing group with their sewing and crafting questions. The DVDs would help me be more confident in my answers to their serging questions as well.

I have not used my sergr for several years. I had frustrating experiences - not knowing how to correct tensions. I really want to use it now that I time to really get comfortable with it. I could use all the instruction and help I can get.

Mine is closet clutter; a device in need of a driven operator.

These DVDs could change all of that.

  26. AliCB | | #26

I know nothing about serging and it seems I need to! Looks straightforward but I am sure I need instruction!!

  27. user-1064229 | | #27

I have a sewer but I just use it to finish raw edges, it would be interesting to learn other things I could do with it.

  28. luvmyhubz | | #28

I don't know much about this but I would love to win to learn more of the benefits of using a serger!

  29. Js621d | | #29

I wanted to up my game with sewing and after much research bought a serger. Now I'm looking at it wondering where to go from here......I think winning the DVDs would boost my confidence in using my serger!

  30. user-3250508 | | #30

I do not own a serger and while this sounds crazy, I have been thinking about getting one. I would love to learn about what a serger can do. I have a friend with a serger but have not seen how it works. My sewing is mostly garments, home decor, etc. I also sew for my three grandchildren. I'm a life long learner and love to sew and be creative. Thank you Threads Magazine. You are wonderful!

Sewing has helped me deal with alot emotionally. It relaxes me and helps me to focus. I have a serger but only use it to finish off seams. Help is always needed.

  37. IamShoppingCarty | | #37

I just unpacked my serger from storage. I have never used it and want to learn desperately. I hope I'm one of the random winners!

  38. [email protected] | | #38

I bought my serger last year and need all the help that I can get....I've been a bit nervous to do more than finish seams. If I won, I could learn so much and start using my serger more!

  39. annem54 | | #39

I have a nice serger, which I'm not using to full capacity. It would be great to win to get more tips and techniques for its use.

  40. Mharrell4 | | #40

I am so excited to be purchasing a Babylock Imagine this afternoon. I am anxious to learn as much as I can to put it to good use.

  41. vestis3 | | #41

I purchased an Ovation last year and want to learn to make projects. I know I will learn many great techniques if I win Pamela's DVD set.

  42. user-4547035 | | #42

I received a new serger for Christmas and I am just starting to use it. I want to learn more about when to use a server and when I need to use a standard sewing machine.

  46. elewis28 | | #46

I am new to serging and just finding out how amazing this machine is. Happy serging!!

  47. kris70 | | #47

Two of us novices in the American Sewing Guild in Portland, OR lead a Serger Group. Most people who attend want to learn new ways to use their sergers. I would be able to take the lessons from the videos and pass them on to our members. It would be a great tool.

  48. KathyBlasey | | #48

I will be getting a new serger soon and would like to know what's new in using one.

  49. bbraids | | #49

I have a Baby Lock Evolution that I love! I'm always trying to use it for different projects using the instructions in my workbook, but I'm sure I would learn more from the DVD.

  50. LeeWells | | #50

A while ago I was given a used serger and I'd like to learn to use it better. fifty years of using a standard sewing machine is not helpful with a serger; the two are very different machines and do somewhat different things in different ways. I figure I can use all the instruction I can get!

  51. user-1021367 | | #51

I have a love--hate relationship with my serger, that is based at least in part, in ignorance. I would love to win the serger dvd set, which would doubtless help!

  52. helenmeck | | #52

I would love to win so I can do something other than overlock the pieces for sewing garments together so they don't fray. That's all I've done with my serger. Ever.

  53. Clewtwo | | #53

I have a 25 year old 4/3 thread Pfaff serger that does not have cover-stitch capability. It is difficult to thread properly and difficult to balance the thread tension dials to achieve an acceptable stitch. A new, more updated serger would add an enjoyable, much appreciated, certainly less stressful sewing tool to use with any of my sewing endeavors.

  54. RushW | | #54

I use my server far more often than I expected when I first purchased it. I am sure that there are tricks and techniques that I have yet to learn.

  55. chucklebunnieuk | | #55

I am 58 years old, almost 59, and this year I was lucky enough to find a Baby Lock Ellure Plus on eBay still under warranty; I could never have afforded a new one. Up until then I had a regular run of the mill straight or zig zag sewing machine, now I can embroider .... well I'm still learning anyway. Can you imagine what I can learn to do if I have a serger? Just the thought of that thrills me to bits as if I were a two year old in a candy store! Upcycling my clothes here I come! Ohhhh I have the chills!

  56. Mitzi | | #56

I would love to know all the things a serger can do. I know I would get a lot more use out of it than I do now.

  57. mamamere | | #57

I'd really enjoy winning the videos. Although my serger came with an instruction book, and I've purchased (sight unseen) a book on "how to do other things", it would be soooo nice to have video instructions on some of the "how to's" to make them more easily understood.

  58. aindava | | #58

Oh, would LOVE to win. I am a visual learner, so DVDs are perfect! (and the serger is scary... help)

  59. user-2481695 | | #59

I love my serger , but I would love to know how to do more than just finish edges, that is why I would like to win.

  60. user-3220369 | | #60

Amazing a national month for sergers. Of course, I would love to win...who wouldn't.

  61. primaken | | #61

I bought a top of the line Baby Lock serger and did maybe 1 project. I loved working on it. Baby Lock makes useing a serger easy. But I have never used it again. I want and need to learn to use my serger with out fear of messing up. So I enter in hopes of getting better.

  66. Barbsews1 | | #66

Sometimes I feel intimidated by my serger, would like to learn to different things besides finishing seams. the DVD's would help me learn it.

  67. CindiBH | | #67

I am just starting to use a serger and I could use ANY help I can get! I love to sew but after 40 yrs I am ready to use a serger. Bought one and have NO idea how to use it! I have been using Youtube to help me.

  68. Carly_Sue | | #68

I love my serger but it seems like I mainly use the 4 thread overlook stitch. I need to learn how to branch out and get the full benefit of this w onderful machine. I would love to win the DVD.

  69. Maryl43 | | #69

I'd like to improve my serger tecniques

I would like to win because I am always seeking to expand my talents. I feel learning new techniques from professionals can help me expand my talents.

  72. lizjk66 | | #72

This contest is perfect for me! I just bought my very first serger and I'm terrified! Not really but I am nervous about it. I would love to win because I know that the material here is top notch. I've already watched several videos on sergers and sewing in general. Thanks for the opportunity!!!

  73. judyschickencoop | | #73

I would love to learn more about using my sergers (I have 2!). I'm so scared I'll never get them threaded back that I only use them to clean finish edges.

  74. aspiretodesign | | #74

I would like to win because I plan to get my first serger this month (I think I will choose the Babylock Diana serger) and would like to use it to its full potential!

  77. ruthk | | #77

  78. Denise_W | | #78

I've been sewing since I was 13, and over 40 years later I've just discovered the amazing things a serger can do. I'm in love, but need to unlock its secrets. The DVD would do just that!

  79. rrjane011749 | | #79

I'd love to win so I might learn to use my serger more efficiently.

  80. ihugmykids | | #80

I got a new seger for Christmas and would love to learn all about it.

  81. user-779770 | | #81

I would love to win this Serger for my American Sewing Guild Chapter in the Tampa area. Not everyone has a Serger within the Chapter, so this would be something everyone could share. We also have a Serger Neighborhood Group and the DVD's would make excellent teaching tools for the group.

  82. Quiltgran | | #82

I would love to know some of the more advanced thing to do with a serger

  83. BGtemp | | #83

After having a child and working full-time I was unable to keep up with sewing. I now have my serger set up but feel intimidated by it since it's been so long. I would love to learn the basics again plus new techniques to help me regain my old skills and get excited about sewing with a serger again.

  85. user-715550 | | #85

I have a serger but only do basic serging. I'd love to win the DVD's to learn how to really use my serger.

  86. moomarg | | #86

I would love to receive these DVDS as I've been to scared to try my brand new serger of three years. I think I've had it out of the box once. They would give me the confidence to give it a go.

  87. Honour | | #87

Just recently I was looking at a spool of fuzzy nylon thread and I wondered how to use it in my 1980s serger to finish the seams and hems on knit fabrics. I think the "how to" DVDs are just what the doctor ordered to teach me how to use up this interesting product.

  88. Lisalan | | #88

I would love to be one of the winning names. I just bought a new serger and absolutely know nothing about surging. I am a beginning sewer and have tought myself what I do know on a machine. I read allot of books and online allot. This video would help so much since I'd be able to watch as I pratice. Thank you for the chance to win.

  89. User avater
    PeggyI | | #89

I've owned 3 sergers over many years, however I could really learn lots from these videos, I know. My current machine can do so many different things, but I am uncertain and insecure about "trying" them, all due to my fear of the unknown! I believe the videos would erase my fears and insecurities, giving me the knowledge I need to venture further into the world of serging.

  90. Rgburack | | #90

My 40th year of life was marked by two significant events: the birth of my first child (a daughter) and the acquisition of a long coveted serger. My mother, a well trained seamstress (who never used a serger) and my dear husband researched to find the perfect machine for my milestone birthday.
I love it. I went to one or two serging lessons during the last three months of my pregnancy and have not touched the machine since. That was 21 years ago this August! All the sweet rompers and delicate dresses I designed to look adorable on my two daughters remain fixed in my imagination. Sewing time was eaten up first by Barbie, Ken and Polly Pocket and later by Harry Potter, cheerleading and college applications!
I can't get those days back... and frankly I wouldn't trade any of those times with my girls for time sewing--but I sure do wish I knew how to use my serger to sew some cute tops for my college girls....now I have the time!!!!

  91. user-4286815 | | #91

I would love so much the Serger Videos. I have always been a bit scared of the Overlocker as it is called in Australia simply because I grew up in the counrty and lessons were not an option. Since I retired last year I have taken on so many areas in sewing and I want to learn as much as possible particularly the Overlocker. It is an amazing machine . Cover stitch and the rolled hem I would use a lot. I am sure the video would give me a wealth of knowledge so I can enhance my sewing experience.
Videos are a great way to learn. Fingers crossed I will win a set.

  92. 2Quilty | | #92

I would love to learn how to use a serger properly and take advantage of all its great qualities.

  93. user-22290 | | #93

I am just realising the potential of my serger after 20 years of ownership! Knits hold no fear but I would like to stretch its potential

  94. smockerlady | | #94

Hi there, I would love to enter this competition. My husband bought me my overlocker ( serger) as a Christmas gift two years ago. I have got to grips with threading the machine confidently. However, since then I have simply used it to neaten edges.
The prize would give me the tuition and confidence to unleash all that my overlocker can add to many sewing projects.

  95. Cinsred5 | | #95

I would like to learn how to use my serger for more than just overlocking seams.

  96. valleygirl66 | | #96

I would love to win the DVD's because I am looking to buy a serger and have been a sewer for 45 years but never understood what a serger could actually do. Had I known, I would have bought a Babylok instead of an embroidery sewing machine (and just kept my old Singer.)
I am not the best at figuring things out - I prefer to have a learning tool to get me going and them I am alright. I have boxes of fabric waiting to be used now that I am retired and have the time. I enjoy making things for other people and having the training tools to get me started would be fabulous. I have a great creative imagination - and with a serger and the DVD's - I'd be off to the races. I cross all my digits!

  97. SUZAG57 | | #97

I would love to master my serger. As it is, it sits collecting dust because it intimidates me! I have so many uses for it and just need to build some confidence!

  98. SharonPicone | | #98

There is still so much I need to learn on my serger and I know have not even scratched the surface on what my Babylock serger can do. Winning these DVDs will definitely make the learning process less intimidating. Thank you for this contest and I hope to be lucky by winning a set of these DVDs!

  99. bwtyer | | #99

oh gosh - why do I want to win? Just to have the info at my fingertips- I love my serger and have even taken lessons but I still have trouble setting it up for what I want to do and spend a lot of time flipping through the manual and books that I own. To have a cd in my laptop that I could just click on what I need to do would be fantastic! I am currently teaching my granddaughter to sew so the having that reference at my fingertips would enable me to include more use of the serger in her lessons.

  100. ShuChick | | #100

I would love to learn new serger techniques! I've had mine for about 15 years, but I know that I don't maximize its full potential.

  101. user-2459797 | | #101

I would like to win this for my daughter in law who is learning how to sew and would like to sew knits especially for her children and herself She works full time and I would love to give a gift to her of sewing/serging lessons.

  102. Sarasue828 | | #102

I've had my serger for a good while and I am sure there are many good ideas that I don't remember or have never learned. Am getting back into sewing and could make good use of the instructions to learn new techniques.

  103. NinaLBoston | | #103

This contest was just MADE for someone like me. My DH gave me a serger 2 years ago for my birthday. I should hide under a carton before I admit to this . . .
I haven't taken the machine out of the box yet -- I am THAT scared of it. I hope that the videos will help me get over my serger-phobia and with my impending retirement from 9-to-5 work, I will be able to proudly incorporate serging into my garment making.

  104. user-2881447 | | #104

It would be an amazing addition to my limited sewing skills to win these DVDs. I'm mostly self taught, and any tools that can help along the way will a large help. Thank you for a chance to win!

  105. CDS1966 | | #105

Being retired and on a fixed income, I bought a used serger off of Craig's List the spring of 2014. I am still trying to figure it out. I live very rural so rely mainly on the internet to learn things. I have spent countless hours on YouTube trying to figure out when to use the serger vs the sewing machine. I even tried to get lessons at the nearest sewing stores, 30 to 50 miles away but they did not offer anything on sergers. None of my friends at the local Senior Center have a serger so no help there, I would like to have the DVD's to learn from and maybe then donate them to the local Library so others in my rural area could learn how to use their machines if they were so lucky to have one. Thank you for the opportunity and I like the newsletter I have sewn for 30 years and I still learn techniques from your site.

  106. Jolianne | | #106

I would like to learn what I can do with my serger, it is my first one and it remains a mystery! I really need that! Great giveaway!

  107. kfalcetti | | #107

At 64 years old, I just bought my first serger. How have I been sewing my entire life without one?! I need these DVD's to learn all I can ASAP. New sewing abilities may bring in more sewing business, which I need to supplement my income. Oh happy day, should I win!!!

I bought myself a serger back in 1988 using my first few paycheques. It has only been used to finish the seams sewn on the 1950s sewing machine my mother passed down to me. That machine doesn't 'like' knits so I haven't learned a thing on how to utilize my serger. Getting the DVD would open up an entire new world for me!

I really need to win this because I am dumber than a board when it comes to sewing. Don't get me wrong, I love it. I'm new and came to this later in life, and I'm male. Didn't know one could have so much fun doing something like this. I hope to eventually design. I'm 63 and have finally found what I love. Also is there help for people with a fabric addiction?

I belong to the club of serger owners who haven't learned (or have feared) to utilize all its potential and I desperately need encouragement through professional and clear guidance. Hoping that Serger Techniques and Fashion Serge will do the trick!

I own the Baby lock Evolution and Ovation. I can follow and serge the stitches in the manuals, but need help and ideas on what else these wonderful machines can do. Thank you for offering this giveaway.

For years, I resisted getting a serger because it looked "just too complicated to thread, etc etc." I finally broke down and bought one and I AM HOOKED. I love it. Now, if I only knew how to use it to its greatest potential!! I would love to win these videos!

I have a Jenome serger with the cover stitch but call this machine the beast because its so difficult to use and almost impossible to thread. I rarely use it because of that. Just reading the directiins to get it to do a cover stitch is daunting. I had a bad experience attempting rolled hem on a dress. I wish i had bought the babylock instead. The books would also be extremely helpful.

I used to have an elementary serger in the 90's. I absolutely fell in love. Since I have went through a series of layoffs, finding a job is extremely difficult since I am in my 60's. There is major "ageism" out in the job market. I'm bringing in extra monies by creating/sewing wall hangings, kitchen items and other home décor items by selling said items at flea markets, etc. Having a serger would reduce my production time by at least 55%. and get my items out to the customers. I would appreciate getting into this giveaway as I am unable to afford a serger. Thanks!

I have a Babylock Serger. I love it! It makes it so easy to thread and use, but I've so little experience with it and there are so few classes or books that show you how to use it. I could really use the information contained in this wonderful set to enhance my knowledge and enjoyment in using my serger.

I dearly love my Elna 744 serger and I know I could not live without it. I am sure that there are many new and amazing techniques that I would love to learn. Maybe publish some of these in an upcoming issue of Threads? So here is to expanding my serging knowledge with more fantastic techniques for fashion sewing. :-)

I love my serger and use it often...but for little more than its basic functions to add a professional finish to projects. I would love to learn how to broaden its use in my sewing room to make my work more interesting and efficient.
