Pattern Review: Simplicity 1256 Ensemble

Threads #180, Aug./Sept. 2015

Sewing Tip: Use a fabric with good elastic recovery, especially for the skirt, so it doesn't shift when worn.

Simplicity 1256

This pattern is an ensemble designed for stretch-knit fabrics. The pieces are sporty, comfortable, and meant to be mixed and matched. The pattern consists of a long tank top, a short-sleeve cropped tee with a 1-1⁄2-inch-wide hem, a tube skirt that ties at the waistline, relaxed leggings with an elastic waistband that sits at the natural waist, and a cylinder scarf that could double as a tube top. Bands finish the neckline and sleeveless armhole edges. Each piece can take as little as 30 minutes to put together. The instructions are accurate, well-illustrated, and include helpful hints for working with knits. Make this ensemble in a variety of knit fabrics including basic jersey, interlock, spandex, fishnet mesh, or stretch lace.

(Sized Misses’ XXS–XXL [4–26] for busts 29.5–48 in. and hips 31.5–50 in.)

Sewing Tip: Use a fabric with good elastic recovery, especially for the skirt, so it doesn’t shift when worn.
