Indygo Junction: Sophia Swing Coat IJ1133CR
A roomy A-line coat from the Crossroads by Amy Barickman collection is a fresh take on a light topper. This unlined design has one-piece raglan sleeves, topstitched side-seam pockets, and an inverted pleat at center back topped with a yoke. The raglan sleeves have shoulder darts and end just below the elbow or at three-quarter length. The 37-step instructions are thorough and have details to give novice sewers confidence. Our tester recommends basting the back pleat closed after pressing it, to keep the edges together until the coat is finished. Our staff seamstress found that at one spot on the back yoke pattern pieces, the S and XS designations were reversed. For an evening version, shantung is a fabulous choice. On the casual side, denim or wide-wale corduroy are wonderful. Other choices include raw silk, double-face wool, brocade, jacquard, lightweight upholstery fabrics, and linen.
(Sized XS-3XL [2-28] for busts 32.5-54 in. and hips 35-56 in.)
Sewing Tip: Sew this unlined coat with flat-fell seams for a clean interior finish.
