Thread Theory: Goldstream Peacoat 04

This is a great take on the traditional double-breasted peacoat, with two options for fit and details. There is a classic, fitted shape with front vertical darts, epaulets, lined patch pockets with flaps, and sleeve tabs. The version with a more casual silhouette omits the darts, tabs, and epaulets, but adds a detachable hood. Both views are fully lined. If you are new to tailoring or would like a refresher, check out the Tailored Peacoat sew-along series on the company’s website. The blog posts use the pattern as a base and explain how to add more tailoring. Our tester loved the lines of this design and the other men’s patterns from the company. He recommends enlarging the back neck facing for it to lie more smoothly. Our staff seamstress found the markings and instructions for placing the closure buttons on the double-breasted design confusing; the two button rows should be equidistant from center front. This design is ideal for heavy coating, tweed, or other classic wools.
