A slimming, straight wrap skirt is a work wardrobe staple. The design comes in three lengths: above the knee, just below the knee, and midcalf. The waist edge sits 2 inches above the natural waistline. Five buttons close the wrapped design on the left side, mirrored by five nonfunctional buttons on the right. The front has single darts, and there are double darts in back. The button feature, combined with the shaping darts and asymmetrical curved wrap edge, create a slenderizing look. If you have a machine that makes good buttonholes, this skirt will be a cinch to sew. The skirt offers an opportunity to showcase special buttons you have been holding on to. Be creative with your closure choice, and use an interesting color for the topstitching. Fabric choices include stretch real or faux leather, four-ply silk, crepe, wool flannel, textured tweed, gabardine, and ponte or scuba knits.
(Sized Misses’ 6-22 for hips 32.5-46 in.)
Sewing Tip: Consider making bound buttonholes, working and faux, to give the skirt a vintage couture look.
