1950s-Inspired Jacket Pockets for a Modern Look: Free Template

Threads #227, Fall 2024

Learn to design and sew an intriguing jacket pocket, based on a mid-century design. This pocket features a double-flap detail, with one flap that folds up and the other down. Both flaps are buttoned to the jacket body.

Contributing Editor Kenneth D. King explains how to create this pocket in Threads #227, Fall 2024. Now he shares the template used to shape the pocket flaps. Download and print the template, and follow his step-by-step instructions for incorporating it into a princess-line jacket pattern.

Of course, you can use this template to make other pocket styles. Similarly, Kenneth’s method for drafting and sewing a pocket with mirrored flaps can work with different shaped flaps. Have fun designing your own, unique pockets next time you are sewing a jacket.
