Feminine Dress
Skill level
The sewing is moderate but detailed. The instructions are well-written and assume a certain level of sewing skill and understanding of garment construction.
Size range and fitting
Misses’ 6 to 24, for busts 30½ inches to 46 inches, waists 23 inches to 39 inches and hips 32½ inches to
48 inches. The bodice is fitted through the bust and waistline, and the skirt flares. The waistline sits 2 inches above the natural waist.
Fabrics
It is meant for soft fabrics such as challis, rayon, crepe, georgette, voile, and cotton. It would be delightful in a border print. Try it with a combination of layers such as silk chiffon over lace.
Style and sewing details
This is a fit-and-flare dress with retro details.
• It has an underlined bodice, V-neckline, ruffle-trimmed yokes, set-in sleeves, shoulder pads, and princess seams.
• The lined skirt is shaped with inverted pleats in front and darts in back. Length choices are knee or midi.
• The center-front edges abut, closing with shank buttons and bias loops. The practical opening is a center-back invisible zipper.
• The full sleeves with gathered caps are short or full length and have a continuous lap opening. They gather into fitted cuffs, with a button-and-loop closure.
• This feminine look is easily styled with strappy heels, booties, or fun cowboy boots.
