Amsterdam Tour Recap, London Game Plan | Episode 85

Video: Threads Magazine

Threads is heading to the United Kingdom in May 2025, after a successful tour to the Netherlands in October 2024. Threads Editor Carol J. Fresia shares what made the Netherlands tour so special and what to expect when in London, in this podcast. Then she switches gears to highlight some of the articles included in Threads #229. The Spring 2025 issue reaches newsstands well before our London adventure.

Recollections from the Netherlands

In the Netherlands, 18 tour participants enrolled in an exclusive, three-day workshop organized and led by Saskia ter Welle at the Dutch Couture Academy. It was an opportunity for applying creativity to three different techniques: draping, creating a unique lace collage on a dress form, and forming three-dimensional silk flowers. Each technique provided ample opportunities for experimenting.

“It felt like the most fun, kind of creativity self-care event for three days,” Carol says. “It was just exactly what I think I needed and probably the rest did, too.”

The trip also entailed a stop at a goat and sheep farm where yarn is made and garments also are knitted, chocolate tasting, a textile museum tour, fine fabric and textile shopping, and more.

The wool from sheep raised at Knitwit Stable, southeast of Amsterdam, is spun into yarn and made into knitted garments, all at the farm. Threads tour participants had a chance to see the sheep and the entire wool production operation up-close.

The shopping included the Harrie Bosch store in Eindhoven, where one of the shop’s owners even sells her own patterns.

Plans for the London Tour

For a totally different experience, consider the Threads trip to London from May 3 to May 10, 2025. Up to 15 people can join the tour, which includes stays at two four-star hotels. Highlights of the tour are detailed in the itinerary here.

Carol says she is looking forward, in particular, to the two-day glove-making workshop with luxury leatherware specialist Riina Õun, the embroidery workshop at Hand & Lock, and the Cartier exhibition at Victoria and Albert Museum. There are many more activities planned.
