Create a Delicate Collage with Layered Sheers
Make it the highlight of your next garment.Hot weather dressing can present a quandary for those who wish to clothe themselves artfully. It is easy to create a montage with layers of opaque fabric that hide the necessary construction details, but how can artistic details be worked into a summery look? Taking a few cues from the special-occasion world, why not use sheer fabrics in various colors to create the designs that feel right for your preferred style of dressing? Floaty, voluminous yards of fabric have been used for years, but more shaping creates delicious details and dreamy designs that are perfect for today’s casual dress code.
The design approach I am highlighting takes advantage of a range of lightweight, decorative fabrics, cut and collaged, and sandwiched
between layers of sheer fabrics. The result delivers the texture and dimension we love in an appliquéd or quilted jacket, but in an airy version that’s a delight to wear during warm weather. Enjoy making breezy collaged garments for special occasions, or for any day.
