Deer and Doe: Lupin D0021
This blouson-style cropped jacket has an 18-inch center-back length and is fully lined. It has wide-sweeping lapels, front princess seams, vertical welt pockets, optional shoulder epaulets, a back yoke, a set-in waistband, and sleeves gathered into narrow cuffs. Our tester found it, in some respects, to be a great design for a novice sewer. There are no darts; no collar; no front closures; and minimal sleeve-cap ease, which makes for easy sleeve installation. Our staff seamstress had some difficulty topstitching the waistband and cuffs because of the many fabric layers and notes that you must be careful when assembling and topstitching the front pieces: Make sure you don’t stitch through the pockets. Our tester found the cuff opening to be narrow. Choose lightweight versions of traditional jacket fabrics such as real or faux leather, real or faux suede, denim, twill, or corduroy.
(Sized 34-46 for busts 31.5-41 in.)
Sewing Tip: Plan an alternative fabric for the back yoke facing, if your fashion fabric isn’t something you want to wear against your skin.
