A friend at work, who has never sewn before, is making her costume. She’s using an existing long dress, slightly gathering lengths of 18″ wide bright colors and sewing them onto the dress. She’s putting on five different colors from the bottom up. She discovered she was putting them on too tightly when she couldn’t get the dress on! So she ripped them all off and has started over. I give her so much credit for doing something she’s never done before, but oh my goodness, we have sure laughed alot about her progress! Oh, she also has a hat with fruit piled on top, gloves and a purse to match!

Your friend is a sewer/sewist in the making if she redid all that! Sounds like a Carmen Miranda costume. Good for her. Thanks for sharing the story. Cathy
One year when I was pregnant, I went as a penguin. I made a costume out of an old white sheet and some black cotton/poly that I had around, added a plastic beak, red stocking hat and a scarf. Got oodles of compliments on it. Not a Halloween costume, but I've been researching Tudor/Elizabethan dress for a Ren Fest wedding we'll be attending near Dallas, TX next spring. I can't wait to get my holiday sewing done so I can focus on my new dress!
That will be a fun and unique project for you, and you will actually be making something just for you for a change, hooray. I always enjoy the planning and imagining part the best! Mary
Lace some ribbons up her legs, some big hoop earrings and red lipstick and she is ready to go. Sounds like loads of fun!
I'll have to let her know at work tomorrow! What a hoot!
She's certainly got alot of creativity and persistance! It sounds as if we have a new seamstress in our midst even if she hasn't realized it yet. Once the bug bites ya, you're hooked, hopefully she will be! Maybe she'll let you post a photo when she's got it ready, hat and all. I am intrigued. Thanks for sharing your story. Mary
I'll see what I can do about the photo. I told her I posted here and she was pretty excited.
cool beans! Hope she agrees! I also hope she finds that she loves to create, maybe we have a new fiber artist! Mary
