I’m working on a a-line skirt made with a stretch cotton (5% lycra).

The skirt draped beautifully until I hemmed it. Now it’s stiff and sort of bells out and there is little evidence of the flares left.
The hem is 1 inch deep and is stitched to the lining. Any suggestions (besides using a different fabric)is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Nhi

How did you handle the excess fullness in the hem: draw it up with gathering thread? You might need to change to a 1/4 in hem. If the skirt hem has 1" excess and the lining has 1"excess that will make your hem quite stiff--this has always been an issue with A-lines. Galey

I would hem the lining and the skirt separately. They are almost never attached as they hang differently and that can cause the problem.

I'll amend that to say that straight skirts are often attached, but still sometimes only at the kick pleat

I agree tht you should hem them separately. If the skirt has some stretch withthe lycra and the lining doesn't, they are not a good choice to use together. But hemming them separately and with a narrow hem should be a big help.
Hem seaparately and also think about a smaller hem you need to get any fullness out of the hem The bigger the hem the bgger th fullness
