Conversational Threads

A (very) fond farewell from Amber

AmberE | Posted in Feedback on Threads on

Dear Gatherings Friends:

When I first arrived at Threads almost 3 years ago, you were the readers who helped me steer Threads toward the future, and you have been a loyal, engaging, and fascinating audience throughout my journey here. You’ve inspired the new Sew Stylish magazine for beginning sewers; and encouraged me to bring back old favorites, like the vintage back cover, and explore new topics, with your many article ideas and suggestions. I couldn’t have asked for a more loyal and honest audience, and that’s more than most editors ever get.

Many of you know that I commute to Connecticut from New York City, about 80 miles each way. I’ve made a decision that I need to take a job closer to home and the most difficult part about that decision is leaving a great audience like you. Working at Threads has been a dream job and one whose memories I will always cherish. I have learned so much from you, and I want to thank you for that. Editor Nicole Smith will be taking my place as moderator on this site. I know that you will teach her as much as you have taught me and help Threads (and Sew Stylish!) continue to be great publications.

All my best, Amber Eden

    Dear Amber,

Thank you for your dedication to making this a most helpful website, and especially for the quality you have assured with each new issue of Threads.  I have been a subscriber for all but the first couple of years, and have particularly appreciated the dedication to a broad sector of topics that appeal to many levels of skill in the area of needle arts.  You have met the challenge and deserve a multitude of kudos' for a job well done.  You will be missed.

I pray you will find a dream job close to home, and that it will bring you great joy.  After all, if you "do what you love", you never really have to work a day in your life.  Blessings to you for good health, great happiness ...and enough wealth to give you a good night's sleep.

    Sincerely, "Sewslow67"

Oh, Amber, how you will be missed!  I really have appreciated your willingness to be open to all Threads readers and hope that the person taking over will continue this quest.

    Best of luck,

Please remember to take some time to "Smell the Roses".

    God Speed.

Oh, no! My goodness, Amber, I will miss you so much!

Thank you for the elegance you brought to the magazine, and thank you for taking the time for such warm and personal replies to our comments to you here. While it may be a benefit in this technologically-driven world to have instant access to your readers, it must have been quite a task to add chatting with us to your unimaginably packed work schedule. I remember well the comment someone made about you taking the time to reply to us on weekends and in the evenings. You really were "Threads 24/7" and we noticed and appreciated that gargantuan effort.

May your fabric never tear and your thread never tangle.

    My best wishes to you,

    :) Mary

Thank-you for your part in bringing us Threads and Gatherings, from which we have benefited so much.

Will you continue to provide articles for Threads?  I was hoping we could follow the fun times of the red dress.

Best wishes on your new endeavors.

    Hi Amber,

Wow!  Best of luck to you.  When is your last day at Threads?  You better keep in touch!!  I have a cell phone number for you but I don't know if that is a business cell phone....I want to keep in touch!  Maybe we will end up taking a class at FIT again some day.  Or if you are working in the city, maybe we can get together for lunch or drinks after work.

Did you find another job or are you giving yourself a break first.  I can't believe it!  You have made such a great contribution to the magazine.  It really turned around during your tenure.  I can only hope that your successor will continue on the path you started for the magazine.  And it was a pleasure to take the Draping courses with you.  I love your creativity.  You are one of the people that I miss.

        All the best.  Take care.

I write this with mixed emotions. Sad for us to be losing your expertise and willingness to help. Excitement for you as you begin a new and different career path.

You will be sorely missed. I sincerely hope your successor can live up to your wonderful example of grace under fire here on this fantastic forum.

    Farewell and good luck.

      Dear Amber,

WOW, I am in the loop now.  I missed this when I posted to you Amber yesterday  Thank you for spending your precious time with us here at "Gatherings."

A big thanks for starting Sewstylish and continuing it.  I have tooted the publications horn on several boards as much as I could get away with without people thinking I worked for the magazine or owned stock in it.

A big loss for Threads and us here; I wish you the very best in your future endeavors wherever the road takes you.  You will be greatly missed.

      Best wishes,

      Michelle

    Dear Amber,

THANK YOU for your great kindness and your continual good cheer.  You are a real treasure to those of us who sew, and your terrific magazine is an ENORMOUS gift.

Thank you for sharing your talent with us.  Thank you for all the late night and weekend time you took to be online --- listening and encouraging us at every turn.

I am very, very grateful.  I have been blessed by your work and your kindness.  The best to you in all that you will be doing next.

Signed -- A loyal, loyal reader

    Dear  Amber

thank you for inspiring me all over again after 20 years and then I retired and found threads, around the same time as you would of joined the magazine.

How happy you will be eventually that you do not have to tire yourself out travelling.

The only message I would pass on to the new editor is to always keep in mind that new sewers need to be inspired or the magazine would disappear.

We are like learner drivers, who need help, so that is why the magazine must keep a mix of lessons for new comers and professionals,  other wise us new sewers will loose heart and not progress.

Until I read the magazine  a few issues ago I had never heard of a fell seam now I am using it ,  I also face everything and make a sample garment, and have progressed from elestic waist in skirts to zips and i am now making my first coat.

All thanks to you.  O and i am sewing for our new baby granddaughter and i intend to teach her.

Every happiness in  your new life.

       from    Australia.

Amber, I actually got weepy when I read this post.  You will be sorely missed.  You are surely a class act, and your contribution to Threads has been first rate.

    Godspeed, my friend.

What a lucky lady you have been, to be able to make a living doing the things you love most.  You have definitely been a great contribution to this forum and I'm sure to the people that have had the pleasure to work along with you.  Good luck in all you do, and continue the dream.
