adding straps to strapless bridesmaid dresses

rsew | Posted in General Discussion on

I’m presently altering bridesmaids dress (strapless) and want to add some straps.

the dresses come with loops at the front breast area and back of dress and matching straps are included with the dress.

My question is how to attach the straps, do they go thru these thread loops and sew snaps onto the straps or do I actually sew the straps to the dress.  By this I mean do I place the straps in the seam lines of dress fabric and lining fabrics??

Thanks

Hooks can be placed on the straps to attach to the loops.   Snaps would come apart.   There will be strain on the straps so  be sure to securely sew the hooks in place and make sure to make them tight enough.   You can also thread the straps through the loops  and attach them with hook and eye or stitch them to the lining below the loop.  This may tend to pull the lining up so you may need to actually sew it through to the interfacing or interlining.
