Aging Denim

genevieve | Posted in General Discussion on

I’m making a mini pair of jeans for my neighbour’s grandson; I want to age the denim to make it look very trendy.  Any tried-and-true methods out there?  genevieve

I've heard that you can use sandpaper. Rub on the knees, edge of pockets, anything that usually wears out the quickest.

thank you - I'll get out the sandpaper and rub away.

Wash them in water with bleach, also, to fade the denim.  Then you could "dye" them with tea to give them a "dirty" look.

thanks thimblefingers - have done that with lace, but not thought of it for denim - will try.

A good method to soften denim before or after sewing is to soak it in a solution of 1 cup fabric softener in a small wash load of water for 24 hours. With a young child, it might then be necessary to wash it to get the fabric softener out as much as possible. God bless you Galey
