My daughter lost 30 pounds, I am looking for a book with directions, tips for making alterations. Any recomendations? I am an experienced but rusty seamstress. looking at this as an opportunity to get back into sewing.

Let me first congratulate your daughter on her weight loss!About the alterations for her: your best bet would be to seriouly consider just how much work you want to do. Taking in side seams on pants and skirts is not a big deal, but getting a bodice that needs to be taken in a conservative two sizes is another matter completely. I have NEVER seen a blouse or jacket that has been altered as much as you are going to have to do look normal when is is finished. A new wardrobe-or some new items-would be a lot easier. Incidentally, if you are still serious about this, Mary Roehr has just about the last word in alterations. Check out some of her books on Amazon.com!Good Luck!
good advice from sew lady. your time would be better spent, with a small investment in some nice sale fabric, in making her a few new items that fit now and will be easier to alter and/or will accomodate her losing a few more pounds. maybe a skirt and pants with a rigid waistband in front, for sleeker look, and elastic back half to allow shrinking waistline.
some resizing of existing clothes may be simple, but as said, bust and torso are more complicated. bustlines can lower, raise, and change shape with weight loss and gain. also, it throws the lengths off, not just the width, as it takes less fabric to run vertically over a smaller bust and rear.
