Altering dress at neck and shoulders from too big to smaller.

LisaD2345 | Posted in Teach Yourself To Sew on

Haven’t made clothes in many years. Made multi-sized pattern dress sized for large hips. Moved dart for smaller bust. Shoulders and neck are huge. I guess I should have used size for neck, shoulders and bust and just increased hip size. Is there any hope in altering it after the fact? It’s New Look #6347 Any be,p would be appreciated.  http://sewing.patternreview.com/patterns/3601

Altering a dress at the neck and shoulders.

How much do you need to ease out of the neckline?  If it isn't too much, you may be able to increase the back seam, beginning somewhere as far away from the neckline as possible and tapering out at the neckline  - like a long dart.
