Applying gripper snaps

I am trying to apply gripper snaps to a smock. Please, any easy way/suggestions to line up the female snap already applied to the left side to the smock to the male snap I am trying to apply to the right side of the smock. Thanks!

Susan, it's easier to first apply the male snap. Then, you rub its tip with chalk and when you close the garment over it, the chalked tip transfers a mark to the cloth exactly where you should apply the female part.
