OK, I’m looking for the article on buttonholes where the author showed how to make a buttonhole that was a different color than the main fabric. Sort of like a welt pocket, but as a buttonhole? I’m vaguely remembering a picture of a gray jacket with buttonholes that were oblong out of a chartreuse fabric????

How timely, I recently posted a similar question and directed to that very article, #95, "5 Foolproof Bound Buttonholes". If you have Roberta Carr's book, "Couture, the Art of Fine Sewing", I found that very helpful also....(more detailed), beginning pg. 185.
By all means use silk organza to stabilize the opening.

Thank you, I shall dig that old issue up!
I saw an article about a year ago (maybe November?) on decorative buttonholes, possibly in Threads. It showed a lot of interesting shapes and contrasting colors for buttonhole options. When I get a chance, I'll check back issues for the exact title.
