babylock or simplicity blindhemmer

mattkarla | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

Hi, does anyone out there have any experience on a blindhemmer?  I am having problems keeping the loop the same without having to adjust the tension constantly on the same hem.  I do lots of drapes, so have very long hems.  This is the second blindhemming machine I’ve tried and having similar problems on both.  I would like to hear from anyone who know about these machines!  Thanks.

My experience with blindhemmers is quite small...consists of one or two forays while working in a costume shop twenty- five years ago.  I do recall it was temperamental.  Is yours new or a used machine?  In trouble shooting tension related problems I'd suggest you first make sure there's no gunk in between the tensioning discs.  Gently pull a piece of muslin through the discs to wipe out any accumulation of lint and fuzz.  I seem to recall that our machine did a chain type stitch and used a very light weight thread.  And then there's also the age and wear on the needle.  When I suspect needle wear but I'm not sure I save the old one before pitching it to be sure I'm not wasting one that's still good. One time I put a needle in backwards and couldn't figure out why the durn thing wouldn't sew right!  Good luck.
