backstitch control on elna — where?

My stepmother gave my daughter an Elna SU mechanical sewing machine. Unfortunately she is incommunicado. We finally got it to stitch, but elna hid the backstitch control. I thought it might be the little plastic lever hanging down behind the foot, but that doesn’t seem to do the trick. The manual we got didn’t seem to think that backstitching required discussion.
Anyone?
thanks,
Eric

Eric: On my Elna Air Electronic SU, the backstitch button is directly under the word "Elna," right hand side. The button is pushed to the right, and then stitches backward. The little white button in front of that, allows the front portion of the machine to open up for tight work, such as sleeves, mending, etc.
The little plastic lever hanging down behind the presser foot is a bobbin retratctor, if your machine is like my old Carina SU. It is on a spring and you pull the device down, insert the end into the bobbin and pull the bobbin out of the case. Somewhat awkward, but it works.
I never would have guessed that was for retrieving bobbins. Thanks!
After Bengie's reply, I noticed that there was a lever near the access door on the top which turned out to be the backstitch control.
Thanks everyone.
Eric
