Basting with “Wonder Tape”

SheShe | Posted in General Discussion on

This is my first experience with this forum altho I have been receiving Threads for over ten years.  I have been sewing ever since I can remember – altho now I spend more time thinking and reading about it than I do actually sewing!

I love using Wonder Tape for basting tiny things.  I find it especially useful in attaching the Velcro (cut into 3/8 ” wide strip) on the openings of the Raggedy Anne and Andy outfits I make for our church sewing group.  Being able to stitch thru the tape without gumming up my needle if the best.

Where do you find the Wonder Tape? I used another kind and it was too strong and I couldn't sew through it.Marcy

I found Wonder tape at JoAnn's as recently as last month. It is about $4.

I"m a big consumer of Wonder Tape. Once you start using it you will find a ton of other uses. I used it yesterday to to place my buttons properly on the blouse front before I machined stitched them on. I put a little piece behind each button and then pressed them down where they needed to go. I also like to use it to place zippers and not have the "bump" of a pin upsetting the placement of the zipper. But my favorite use for Wonder Tape is attaching piping to smocked areas on the childrens clothing I make. It just works so perfectly for that. I always get mine at Joanns.

I use Wonder Tape to hold hems in place on knit tops before I stitch them.  Works well on cotton and cotton blends but left a dark streak on a wonderful rayon knit top so now I'm a bit nervous about using it.  It looked fine until I washed the top.
