Linen for sheets? OhYeah!!!
I have several wonderful "sheets" that I use in my sleeping bag for camping, that are actually old table cloths, and I LOVE them - so soft and cuddly, and either warm or cool, depending on the weather. I've never sewn bedding (out of any material), but until the 1960's, one could easily buy sheets made of 100% linen and they were marvelous!
Definitely pre-wash your fabric a couple of times before cutting, as new linen shrinks something fierce. It also softens considerably, and the crispy texture that wrinkes when you look at it sideways, pretty much goes away in the laundry.
If you're attracted by that 'crispy' feel - plan on dry-cleaning forever, or ironing with starch!
Bright Blessings, and Welcome!
Kharmin
Thanks
Thank you for your input, I was starting to think I was crazy, Do you think about $8 yd 59" wide is a good price for twin sheets?
I made a queen sized set of linen sheets out of a natural (beige) main body with a fold-back hem out of bright white back in 2006. I had made a quilt in linen out of red/white and blue. I loved the look and feel of them but I wasn't happy with the fit of the fitted bottom sheet. They did wear very well though, and machine washed and dried on the line they came in smelling fresh and unwrinkled. (I had a high enough closeline to be able to hang them straight and slightly stretched).
