Britex on Geary Steet. The notions department on the 3rd floor is outrageous. Every kind of button and ribbon you could imagine. And I really like the remants on the 4th floor. Here's a link: http://www.britexfabrics.com/Location4.html
What a coincidence! I was going to ask the same thing! I’m going later in August. Never been before.
I found Britex online but it seemed like ‘only fabric’, I hope they have notions as well? I’m looking for garment fabric as well as specialty thread (like Multi’s, ribbon floss, and Sulky Blendables) for doing some bobbin work as well as embroidery. Do they have those types of things?
I also didn't realize that they had more then one floor! I'll definately have to devote a few hours there!!! :)
Definitely allow 2 to 3 hours to wander around Britex. There is an entire floor just for notions. Every kind of button, ribbon, lace you can imagine. Their website lists directions and hours. Be sure to check it out!
Stone Mountain and Daughter is in Berkeley, on Dwight and Shattuck, just a block or so from the BART station. It takes only a few minutes and a few dollars to ride BART from SF to Berkeley, where in addition to a great fabric store, you get spectacular views of the Bay, the City (SF), and the bridges. Good restaurants and a wonderful marina, too, if you want to make an afternoon or day of it!
Satin Moon on Clement Street between Arguello Street and Second Avenue in the Richmond District(North side of Golden Gate Park). Small shop on north side of street. been there eversince I can remember(grew up near there). across the street, on the corner of Second Avenue and Clement..um..on Southwest corner is FabriX...rolls and rolls of inexpensive fabrics and notions--great selection of trim for little money. not too much wool, tho. ;o((I"m always looking for stretch wools).
Check out Haight Street. Go to Mendel's FarOut Fabrics...and go east one block on the same side of the street; there's a discount fabric store there. Remember me when you buy too much ;o)
When you go to Stone Mountain and Daughter, (while on that side of the Bay) look up Poppy Fabric.
