Hi All
I am the mom of a 20 something son who is involved in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism); a group that reenacts medieval life. The fighting, the feasting, the lifestyle, the heraldry. This is his hobby. He wants me to attend an event but everyone – participant or spectator must be in period garb; i.e. dressed in appropriate middle ages attire. The outfit he suggests I make is a Bog dress which is very simple, he says but I would at least like to see a picture of one. He lives in another city so we can’t get together until the event on 9/10. Any ideas?

Just go to google.com and type in bog dress. You won't believe the number of hits you get--and a lot of pictures, too.
Hi Dragon Diva:
There was an article on a bog coat including complete 'how-to' in past issue of Threads.

Usually the chatelaine at an SCA event will have "loaner garb" for you to borrow if you are a first time participant. There are many article on the web describing easy to make first garb. Search on SCA and costume, and you will be inundated. Here is a classic: http://home1.gte.net/kmvogt/ktunic1.html
In addition to the other great answers you've gotten, you must have a look at the excellent site "The Costumers' Manifesto" at http://www.costumes.org by by Tara Maginnis, Ph.D. of The University of Alaska Fairbanks. It is a true wealth of information! I am a costume mistress and makeup artist for community theatre, and it is an indispensible resource.
Good luck!
You guys are great!
i have found what i need, made my 'garb', and have been returned to the title of being a "really cool mom". thanx! I couldn't have done it without you.
