Book on Teaching a Child to Sew

Reina | Posted in General Discussion on

I am looking for a book that will help me to teach my young granddaughter (6 years old) to sew.  She wants challenging projects, but does not have the skills required to do this.  She wants to do more than just sew pillowcases.  Can anyone recommend a book that would incorporate fun sewing projects, but still teach her sewing skills.

    Hi Reina,

Yes I would love to share a book with you. I had bought my 9 year old Daughter for Christmas last year! (now she is 10)

The Best of Sewing Machine Fun for Kids (it's a red book)
    Possibilities from C&T Publishing

This book would be great for your 6 year old. I will start my 5 year old on this when I get the chance.

In this book you will find all about learning terms, vocabulary and all about the machines in fun games like word searches and such then you will have more games you just use your needle and the game paper..

Example: Connect the dots, Mazes, this will help in learning to pivot, and go in circles and do corners etc.

This book will defiantly help her with the skills and the sewing vocab she needs. They do have some projects really simple mostly on paper and scrap fabric.

Highly recommended by me love love love it!!

Just take photo copies so you don't have to ruin the book and use is over and over and over again!!

(they do have second one too called Sewing Fun for Kids Patchwork,Gifts & More! this is in a yellow cover)

Hope this is a great start for you!!
