shamrocq | Posted in Patterns on

im interested in making my own dresses. the thing is i dont have the kinda of time to go for a proper education so i decided to learn the techniques from books. i’ve purchased a book on pattermaking by helen armstrong… it is a very good book but i dunt think its suitable for beginners like me.
recently i’ve heard about a book titled pattern making by the flat pattern method by norma r.hollen… im just wondering is it a good buy for a beginner like me. please advice… i would be grateful if u guys could give a few recommendations of books on pattern making

My all time favorite sewing book is "Make Your Own Dress Patterns" by Adele P. Margolis.  It is, unfortunately, out of print, but I have seen copies available at http://www.alibris.com  from time to time.

The beauty of Margolis' book is that it is directed toward the home-sewer.  There are simple exercises which are done with quarter scale slopers (which are included in the book).  This book is very easy to understand, conversational in tone, and has sound, sensible information.  Be on the lookout for a copy!
