Brand New Brother XR9550 – Help fix timing!

opheliaHD | Posted in Sewing Machines & Sergers on

I bought a Brother XR9550 in January and the timing is off already (At least, I think it’s the timing – I’m open to other ideas). It was working perfectly, and then my daughter accidentally sewed with the speed all the way up, only for a few seconds. Since then, I’ve had a problem where the needle strikes the bobbin case on the second downstroke. It’s as if the bobbin case won’t shift properly out of the way. I will try to add photos.

When I move the needle up and down using the wheel, the hook seems to pass right over top of the eye just as it should. I’ve tried removing the bobbin case, cleaning it, and putting it back in with no success fixing the issue. And my needle is still straight.

Any advice would be extremely helpful. The warranty service provider is quite far from me, and I would like to know how to deal with timing myself in the future.

Thanks!
