Brother 3/4 Lay-In Serger

Hansi | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

Does anyone have this serger?  How easy/hard is it to use?  A catalog came in the mail offering it for $200 and I’m tempted.

Thanks,

Jay

I wonder if it is this one?http://www.amazon.com/Brother-1034D-Lay-Thread-Serger/dp/B0000CBK1L/ref=dp_return_1/102-4393992-9174560?ie=UTF8&n=1055398&s=kitchenI got this one a few months ago and love it. The instruction manual and cd-roms that come with it are really thorough and well written and the serger itself is super easy to use. There was a flurry of buying the 1034D over at http://www.patternreview.com recently and everyone is very happy with their serger. You can read some reviews there.

This is it!  Thank you for the information.  I'm off to read the reviews on the link.

http://www.sewing-world.co.uk/overlockers/brother/index.htmI've got this overlocker as above, which is very similar and is very good workhorse, its a bit basic and after several years of use and gaining experience with it, my next machine would be the Babylock Imagine, but honestly this just munches up any fabrics I care to feed it!! I've made tees using really stretchy lycra difficult fabric with NO BOTHER and its not let me down, I can't say anything bad about it!Sue

I LOVE MY BABYLOCK SERGER.. USE IT ALL THE TIME BECAUSE IT CAN TREAD IN ANY ORDER.. AND IT THREADS THE LOOPERS BY ITSELF.. I DO A LOT OF FASHION SEWING AND I CAN EVEN PUT A FUSIABLE IN THE LOWER LOOPER SO I CAN JUST IRON A HEM.  AND THAT CAN BE DONE WHEN I WANT.

MAKES A GREAT ROLLED HEM WITHOUT CHANGING A LOT OF STUFF.. DO NOT BUY A SERGER WITHOUT CHECKING OUT THE BABYLOCK...

I also have a Babylock, the Eclipse. It's a mid-line model, but sews like a champ and has those great BL features others mentioned. Mine is years old, too.

I work at a machine dealer and have had the chance to try probably 6 different companies' sergers. My money is still on the Babylock.

What you should also know is that Brother and Babylock are part of the same company, Tacony Corp, but the machines are made in different countries.

Whatever you do, get the differential feed feature!

Check out Baby Lock Evolve.  It's the ultimate serger!  It's so easy to thread and has so many features you'll love.  It may be the most expensive serger around, but it can do just about anything!  You'll be looking at quality serged garments.  http://www.babylock.com

I would love one, but you know, the money thing (sigh).  I keep thinking maybe I can win one.  :>)  Thank you for contacting me, though.
