Button resources

NansiM | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

Does anyone have a good resource for Chines coin buttons?  I’m looking for something 5/8″ – 3/4″ in an antique gold or brass finish.  they will go on men’s vests for a wedding party to coordinate with the Oriental themed dresses the girls will be wearing.  I know I’ve seen them used in a past Threads article for unusual closures-maybe a Loes Hinse feature, or Lois or Diane Ericson kind of thing?

Thanks for any help, girls.

Head for your nearest Oriental market.  While their primary function may be to distribute huge bags of rice and really fresh bok choy, most carry other gift or party items.  I have purchased rolls of Chinese coins (just like a roll of nickels from the bank) for a couple dollars.  They may be reproductions but have good weight and to my eye they looked right - antiquey bronze metal with square hole and oriental characters.  These with a monkey paw or Chinese knot made of your fabrics or rattail cord would make great looking closures.

I like your idea!  I'll have to see what's available in my area-R.I.  Thanks!

You can contact "Just Buttons" in New York.  They have everything.
