Center Back Seam

d4divine | Posted in Pattern Discussion on

Hello.
I am making a wool cape from a commercial pattern. The pattern has a center back seam. Can I eliminate the CB seam and make it on fold instead. I’ve asked a few people and searched the internet, the responses have been mixed. Some say transfer the ease to the side seam, others say no adjustment needed. The cape will be quite heavy, midi length medium weight wool,
if that makes a differenceAny thoughts on this would be appreciated.

If the seam is straight, fold under the seam allowance and cut it on the fold. There is a chance that the center back seam could be due to pattern width. For example, if the pattern from side seam to center back is 28", then you would need fabric at least 60" wide.

Is the seam straight? If so, I agree with Don.
