Chalk hem marker vs Pin hem marker

andryea | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

I am interested in hearing from folks who have used those hem marking tools available (the ones that stand on the floor)…chalk puffs and pins.

I am considering buying the chalk hem marker but wonder whether this is a sound investment. I have used the pin hem marker (Dritz) when I helped my mother-in-law mark a hem…however I could never use this tool when marking my own hemline.

I would appreciate any feedback or advise others may have who have used both, which you prefer and why and/or other ingenious ways to mark hems for oneself, ie. circle skirts.

Thanks in advance. Andryea

I always use a chalk puffer for my own hem lines.  After ten years, I gave up trying to teach my husband how to mark and pin hems.  It's also great when marking for others. It's easier to see if the hem is parallel to the floor when your not kneeling on it!  Once the chalk line is on the skirt, I just fold and press on the line, trim and finish the raw edge, and neatly hand sew it down.
