HI, i am trying to “tweak” my daughter’s wedding dress. It is silk with an overlay of chantilly lace. There all sorts of strings hanging off the egde. I thought i was supposed to trim them off. Now the edge seems to be fraying. She has already worn the dress for the actual wedding, but she is having another party when she gets back to her home. I have extra lace to try again for the hem. Thanx for any advice. I thought i knew what i was doing….I guess not.

LOL, sounds like you trimmed the eyelash part of the French lace...which Chantilly lace is known for. Maybe some fray check to stop the raveling....but use it sparingly as it can get stiff fast and check it on a scrap to make sure it will not darken or change color on the lace...
I would handsew the lace to the edge...to prevent puckering and also allow greater control....
best wishes!
sorry it took me so long to reply. with the wedding finally over and the all the houseguests finally gone, it took me awhile to get the house and myself back to rights. i had just enough edge lace to fix the bottom of the dress. i found that using a 1.2 mm length and either a .6 or 1.2 width zigzag and a size 60 needle and fine cotton embroidery thread in both the bobbin and top thread worked like a charm. i made sure to back the seams with lightweight tissue while i worked and then it easily tore away. and i have told my daughter not to touch the eyelashes. again thanx for the expertise.
