It has been a couple months ago, but I bought some really nice charcoal gray cotton interlock at the Sewing Workshop, and they had nice woolens, too, although I wasn't looking for gray in particular. They have a web site but don't emphasize their fabrics on it:
http://www.sewingworkshop.com/
I would suggest calling and asking: 1-800-466-1599. I didn't see any "dogs" among their fabrics, and their staff seemed like people I would trust to choose a charcoal gray flannel, for example, over the phone for me.
*Before you think That I abound in aliases, I got excited and refered to myself as Kimberly,Kimberly Kelly, and K.Kelly all in one day. I don't quite know yet how to rectify the situation yet, but I think K.Kelly would be the best. I would like to thank you for your suggestion. I will call them as soon as they open today.
*Try Sawyer Brook. They have 3 Eileen Fisher fabrics in charcoal.
