Chiffon Seam Finishes

dotta | Posted in General Sewing Info on

I need information about sheer fabric seam finishes (other than french seams). I’m unable to find the article I thought was in a Threads magazine a year or so ago.  I have a double-tone polyester chiffon and am making a loose fitting wrap. Also, any hints from you experienced seamstresses with the best way to stabilize the  fabric.

    Dotta,

I posted a similar message about a week ago regarding wedding dress seam finishes and got alot of good advice.  Check out the "Hairline Seams" article in Threads, June/July 2005.  I was also advised to serge each raw edge with a two-thread serger stitch sewn with very fine thread, like embroidery thread, then press the seams open.  I think for your application (unlined), I would use the hairline seam.

    Good luck!

    Donna
