Classic Shirt Buttons

ElaineM | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

Hello All!

I’m looking for a source for classic men’s shirt buttons for Oxford shirts, so I need both 1/2 and 3/8 inch sizes–in navy blue, if possible. I bought a couple gross from The Button Shop in Oak Park, Illinois back in 1992 (yikes!) and they have been wonderful but I’m getting to the bottom of the bag and it seems that The Button Shop is no longer in business. I’ve searched the internet and come up empty, which seems odd to me for such a standard product.

If anybody can point me in the right direction, I’d be grateful!

Here is an online source.  Just type in shirt button in the search

Another source is to just reuse buttons off aging shirts.

http://www.cleanersupply.com has black, smoke, clear and the mottled tans but no navy, but you'll find great prices on invisible zips and Gut threads!

Great site. We are so fortunate to have members with this kind of knowledge. I would never have thought to go to a site like this. By the way, buttons can be found under "Tailoring" in the listing on the left side at the site.

Hi,I have actually seen these, I'm not sure about navy, on long cards on the round racks at Wal-Mart.Marcy

Thank you all for the advice! I found enough in the "Classic" line on cards at Hancock for my current projects, and really appreciate the other sources for the future.I had an interesting conversation with a local fabric and notions wholesaler here in Minneapolis who said that so much of the US clothing industry has been outsourced that it's impacted the availability of some bulk supplies for sewers like me in the states--and for her business as well. Wow!

        Hi,
In a country that has everything at our fingertips, this is surprising and sad.Marcy
