Does anyone know of either an online or “in person” course/s in costume design for theater? I work full time so taking the 3 offered at a local university with a decent theater program doesn’t fit into my schedule. I do design and costuming for a theater program at a school near me (I used to work there and volunteered to *help* which ended up being creating costumes for the whole of Cinderella but thats another story…) However I love it, especially the creativity. I’d like to learn more. I live in Maine. I was thinking about a one week intensive in NYC or the like. Thanks!

Sewing skills and research skills are the most important. Start collecting fashion books, period paper dolls, old Sears catalogs, etc, and patterns. I often used the sleeve from one pattern and the neckline from another and made them work. I think costume design and the costuming process is the most fun ever (but then they use them and get them smelly and give them all back and you have to clean them and find a place to store them!)
I do those pieces now - but I'd really like some professional input. Living in Maine there isn't a whole lot (more like very little). I'd love to find a week long theater workshop for costuming. I have my theater friends on the look out. Yes, I hate it when they dirty up my hard work! And the smell...yes, yuck. :-) Thank you for the thoughts.
