Could Someone Give me Advice Needed for Sewing a Blazer with Unstructured Shoulders
Hello there,
I am in the middle of a project to sew my first blazer; and I could use some advice. I am aiming for an unstructured look; particularly around the shoulders; to create a more relaxed and modern style. Although; I am finding it challenging to balance this style with proper construction and fit.
I have chosen a lightweight wool blend fabric, thinking it would drape well without adding too much bulk. For the shoulder area, I want to avoid traditional padding but still maintain a good shape.
I am considering using a very thin layer of interfacing or even going without any padding. What are your thoughts on this? Have any of you experimented with similar techniques; and if so; what did you find worked best?
Another challenge I am facing is achieving a clean finish on the inside of the blazer. I have read about different lining options; including partial linings or even skipping the lining altogether. What would you recommend for a lightweight blazer that won’t be too warm but still looks professional inside and out?
Lastly; I am curious about how to handle the seams; especially in a jacket that’s less structured. Should I be using different seam finishes to prevent fraying or to maintain the light feel of the garment?
Thank you in advance for your help and assistance.
