Has anyone tried making the covered cord bowls and baskets and boxes. It seems fairly straightforward but wrapping the cord can get really tedious. Does anyone know any tricks to making it easier?

Hot glue has it's uses for
Hot glue has it's uses for ease, but, of course it has its limitations, esp w/ cleaning. I just usually do a wrap-weaving technique and make the entire object out of cord. I've also done this with sterling wire, but you either have to do a lot of annealing or use very fine gague wire. Use fine silver if tarnishing is a concern.
Clarista, I think we are talking about two very different techniques. I am simply wrapping a narrow strip of fabric around a cotton cord and zigzagging it together.
We really are. I thought you were referring to a project similar to one I'd seen where someone coiled jute around planters, hot gluing it in place. The technique I referred to was a coiled weaving technique, which sounds more similar to what you're describing in that it's more gross motor weaving/less fine motor sewing. That's the one I've done in different cords and sterling silver.
I have made small bowls using this method. You are right about winding the fabric strips around the cord, it is tedious, but I really like the bowls. There are a few books out there with some wonderful examples using this method.
