   It would definitely be enough for knitted socks, but I don't know about crocheted ones. Most of the time socks are knitted because knitting results in a thinner, more flexible 'fabric' without unnecessary bulk. Lace weight is very fine, so I think it would work for crocheted socks. Have you done an internet search for a pattern?

   Yes I found some free crochet patterns online. It looks so overwhelming to me. The patterns are for worsted weight yarn which I don't have and was wondering what crochet hook to use and how to figure how many stitches to do to make my size. Urghhhh. I was hoping youtube would have something for me since I do really well with visual. No luck. Drats.

   If I were you, I'd try working up a sample sock following the instructions, using the yarn and hook specified, just to see if this is something you want to pursue further with the smaller hook and lace-weight yarn that you have. You say that you are new to reading patterns and I think that possibly you are trying to run before you've really mastered walking yet. You might want to print out the instructions for a later date, but stick to easier projects until you are truly confident with your pattern following abilities. This would also give you time to experiment with how different yarns and hooks affect the size of a project so that it will be easier for you to adjust the pattern to the yarn you have.

   Have you tried crochetpatterncentral.com ?  They have sock patterns with complete instructions for yarn and needles (hooks). Once you pull up the site, click "womens clothing..then..scroll to find socks and you'll find all the crocheted socks and sock trims you want.

   Rodezzy, you are the best!!!  Thanks for that link.  I've been crocheting since I was 9, and have crocheted just about 1 of every style there is...from gloves to afghans. I love to do doilies in size 30 thread. I've got lots of patterns from the 20's on and have made most of them.  This site has a few that I haven't seen.  I make them for my home, and as gifts for special friends and family.  I was just looking thru my patterns yesterday for something new and couldn't find anything that struck my fancy.  Now I have a couple of new ones to do for Christmas.   Girl, you do 'get around!'  LOL
