Cutting ribbed knit. Help!

kiwa | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

Is there a trick to cutting tubular ribbed knit? I’m trying to add some as a trim to the neck and bottom legs of baby rompers. This stuff is a bear to work with! I find it quite difficult to cut it straight. I’ve tried a rotary cutter and scissors. It’s uneven and I can’t seem to keep it from stretching.

Also, is there anywhere online where one can simply buy the stuff pre-made for collars(the way you can for cuffs)?

Thanks for any advice!!! Kim

If you lay it on a mat, line it up so the folded edge is exactly vertical and put your ruler on top and hold it down tightly, cutting with a rotary cutter on the horizontal line should be a cinch. If you still have trouble ask someone to help you stabilize the ruler while you cut. Is your cutting blade dull? Get a new one. Hope this helps. I use this stuff for kids things all the time.
