Greetings, ladies (and gentlemen?)! This is a question related to the thread about D-cup adjustments. I wear a D-cup bra and love to wear knit tops, which are mostly too tight in the bust if they fit my size 10 RTW frame. When I was 30 lbs. heavier than I am now, I tried putting in either horizontal or vertical darts in knit tops I made, which was not wholly satisfactory. Looked too home-made for me. How have other sewers altered patterns to fit a D-cup bust for knit fabrics???
Thanks,
Susan (Suebee8)

I use a modified full bust adjustment (FBA) for that. I add the extra length(needed over the bust so it does not pull up), and half the extra dart width,(fabric stretch takes care of the rest) but leave it unstitched. I then ease it into the side seam instead of stitching the dart.
On some simple patterns, I will just curve the underarm seam outward slightly in just the bust area, for a little more room for the bust, and then add a little more at the length at the hem in the front of the top.
Kwik Sew patterns are already adjusted for these type of changes, so I sew with them a lot. Their website has a manual for their patterns that explains how their patterns work. You may have more sucess sewing with those patterns, and then using that as an idea how to change others. Cathy
