i have a very unique desire to learn how to make a jacket similar to the ones made by the company Indigo Moon, sold on QVC. I absolutly love the style of these jackets but cannot for the live of me figure out how to make one. the basic jacket pattern is simple it is the patching of the fabrics. do you sew blocks of fabrics together first and then just cut out the pattern over the sheets of blocked fabric or do you cut the pattern pieces and then lay them out on different fabrics and then stitch them all together whitch would require allowing for all seem allowences. anybody got any suggestions or advise or has anyone done this successfully?? I am dying to give this a try. get my point!

I suggest you take a look at the techniques used by Rachel Clark (she has a website at http://www.rdkc.com and has been featured on Simply Quilts (if you catch a rerun you can see her in action). She uses a muslin underlayer to place pieced and nonpieced sections on. Also check the techniques of Koos van den Akker, who was featured years ago in a Threads article (I suspect you can locate the article through the online index). His techniques are different from Rachel Clark's. Both of them make pieced clothing, though.
I am not sure how the jackets are made that you saw on QVC, but I assume the idea is that you want to replicate the effect. The two artists mentioned above should give you some ideas.
