Thank you lady.....I bought some remnants a couple years ago and I've been holding on to them.  I have other organza like her apron in olive green, maroon, black and brown.  I was thinking of Xmas stockings when I purchased it, then I started making dolls.  mmmmmmm.....lovely fance dolled up dolls.

I think that the dolly looks much prettier in the stocking fabric, tee hee hee. It is a beautiful combination of fabrics. Cathy

          What stocking fabric?

BLING!  She's an exciting dolly from head to toe.  That thick coppery hair is just outstanding!  Thanks for sharing your latest creation!  What did you use to paint her face?  Mary

I used Unison Metallic Marker in gold.  I also used color pencils to shade.

I love your doll.  Not being artistic I tried once in the long ago (when they were making geriatric dolls from silk stockings) to make a DOLL.  My family had so much fun with it.  That doll was so ugly it was just hilarious.  I didn't try again-I just let you talented people do these  things.  Needless to say I didn't keep my doll for a family heirloom!

      >> ... tried once in the long ago ... <<    Might it be time to try again?

      >> ... doll was so ugly it was just hilarious ... <<   MO, your effort was worth it.  Laughter is a great stimulant.

      >> ... didn't keep my doll for a family heirloom! <<   Bet if you gave it another go, you'd find the results more to your liking, & this one would entice you to keep it.

I was never brave enough to try again.  I could never wrap my fingers around Barbie doll clothes either-too tiny!!!  I did try though.  Believe me I could not have sold them at a craft sale!  They pleased my daughter though.  It would be a way of using up the odds and ends of trims I have picked up at sales.  No stores here so I pick them up just in case---.

That sounds like an interesting process.  Could you send me the instructions for making the doll?  That would be great.

      1. Cityoflostsouls | | #21

It's been too long ago however the features required the talent-just sewn with hand needle and thread-no appliques or painting.  Your skill was needed to get the expressions, etc. on the doll.  You could make several all with various expressions.  I imagine body parts were attached hyst like any other rag doll or you could try forming them with the stocking but that sounds difficult.  Some of the photos reminded me of dried apple dolls in the facial expressions.  They were good!!!~  Just not mine.

oh...O.K.  I've seen those dried apple doll heads.  I've also seen some dolls made of stockings. Just thought you had the patterns.  Thanks for sharing.

I'm sneaking a peek at the forum this afternoon at work. Your dolls are making me smile--quite a diversion from accounting and financial statements-HA! Thanks for brightening up my day. Your sister in law will smile every day and think of you when she looks at this happy doll.

Hi Gloriasews, so good to hear from you.  I have been missing in action, but I'm up for the action again.  giggle

We're glad you're back - & you seem to be in fine form, too!  Yay!

I just looked at your doll picture!  At first I was startled because I just do not see things like this and then I began to think "what a wonderful interpretation"... she is beautiful.  You do good work.  By the way, what did you use for the hair?

    1. rodezzy | | #26

Its made of eyelash yarn, 3 strands crocheted together into a long chain and hand stitched to the head, encircling the head from front to the center back.

What startled you about her?  And "interpretation" of what?

      1. sewelegant | | #28

Because the expression on her face looks so real, not the pasted on variety.

        1. rodezzy | | #29

Oh, glad you like her.  I loved making her and the other dolls I've made.  It's been a wonderful journey.  Looking forward to what I'll come up with in the future.  Now she wants a doll dressed in white for her bed.  Here we go.......giggle.
